How to Measure Blood Pressure Correctly at Home
Use a validated digital device that measures from the upper arm. Wrist devices are less reliable. The cuff size should match your arm circumference.
Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring, with your back supported and feet flat on the floor. Your arm should be at heart level and supported. Avoid coffee, smoking, and exercise for 30 minutes before.
Measure twice daily — morning before medication and evening — taking two readings one minute apart. Record the average values.
A single high reading is not cause for panic. Blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day; diagnosis requires repeated measurements on different days.
