What to Watch Out For After Stent Placement

The most critical issue after stent placement is regular use of blood thinners. Aspirin plus a second antiplatelet agent (clopidogrel, ticagrelor, or prasugrel) must be taken together for a specified period.

These medications prevent stent thrombosis (clot formation inside the stent), a rare but life-threatening complication. Never stop these medications without consulting your doctor.

Healthy eating, regular exercise, and smoking cessation are essential parts of post-stent care. Reducing saturated fat and salt intake while increasing fruits and vegetables is recommended.

Mild bruising and tenderness at the access site are normal in the first weeks. Report swelling, increasing pain, fever, or bleeding to your doctor.
